התורה קבעה על הזבה והדומים לה ([[נידה]], [[זב]], [[טומאת יולדת|יולדת]]) סדרת חומרות מיוחדות. חומרות אלו אינן קיימות אפילו בטומאת מת<ref>(משכב והיסט - משנה מסכת זבים פרק ד משנה ו. מעיינות - תלמוד בבלי מסכת חולין דף פח עמוד א)</ref>.
